Nina Chizungu is a Congolese feminist researcher, human rights defender, and community leader from eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a region that has experienced decades of conflict, displacement, and remarkable resilience. For many years, she has worked alongside women, young people, and local communities to advance human rights, gender justice, and inclusive participation in social and political life. Her work is grounded in the belief that women are not only surviving crises, they are leading responses, defending rights, sustaining communities, and shaping pathways toward peace, justice, governance and social transformation.
As Activist-in-Residence at the FCRJ, Program Director and Gender Expert at Sote Pamoja RDC, Nina leads initiatives focused on women's rights, youth leadership, community protection, and civic engagement. She works closely with grassroots organizations, women leaders, and youth movements, supporting efforts that strengthen local leadership and amplify voices that are too often excluded from decision-making processes.
Her work also extends beyond eastern Democratic Republic of Congo through regional initiatives that foster collaboration among women and young leaders across the Great Lakes region. By creating spaces for dialogue, learning, and collective action, she contributes to strengthening cross-border solidarity, promoting inclusive leadership, and advancing community driven approaches to peace, social cohesion, and sustainable development.
